5 Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day

Every year on the 26th August we celebrate our canine friends. It’s a day to recognise those amazing pooches, like sniffer dogs and service dogs, who put themselves in danger to keep us safe. It’s a day to raise awareness about the number of dogs in rescue shelters that need adopting. And it’s also a day to say thanks to our doggy best friends for all the joy they bring to our lives. Here’s 5 ways you can get involved with National Day Dog.

1. Take Your Dog on Its Favourite Walk (Or A New One)

Whether it’s the beach or the moors, every dog has its favourite spot to go for a walk. Make your pooch’s day by taking it somewhere you know is sure to get its tail wagging. Bonus points if it’s muddy!

Research also shows that one of the nicest things you can do for your dog is take it somewhere with brand new smells. So finding a new route to walk your dog could also be a great treat this National Dog Day.

2. Send a Dog Related Gift to a Friend or Family Member

If you know someone who’s crazy about canines, help them celebrate National Dog Day in style by sending them a doggy themed gift as a surprise. We have some classic pooch paw or sausage dog hypoallergenic stud earrings which can be sent to your chosen dog lover in the post with one of our personalised gift notes.

3. Donate to a Dog Charity or Shelter

Sadly, not every dog lives with a loving family. At any one time, there’s an estimated 100,000 dogs in shelters that need rehoming here in the UK. You can do your bit to support these organisations by donating to charities like The Dogs Trust or your local shelter.

You could even drop off food and blankets or volunteer an hour or two of your time to help out if you want to do something more hands on. And there’s always the next step of adopting a pup yourself if you‘re ready for the commitment.

4. Enter The National Dog Day Photo Competition

Every year, the organisers behind National Dog Day hold a worldwide photo competition to find the "World's Cutest Dog." All you have to do is take a snap of your pooch striking their best pose and post it on one of the National Dog Day’s social media pages along with the #nationaldogday hashtag and a hashtag of the country you're from. This truly is a global celebration! There are prizes up for grabs for the winners and the chance to feature on the NationalDogDay.com website.

5. Treat Yourself to Something with Your Pooch's Face On

Just can’t get enough of your four-legged friend? Put those competition photos to good use! From mugs to t-shirts, pillows to socks, there’s no end to the things you can put your pooch's face on.

And we’ve got you covered if you’re one of the 39,000 people in the UK that owns a French Bulldog, currently the second most popular dog in the UK (it narrowly missed out on the top spot to the Labrador). Our cute French bulldog hypoallergenic earrings are the perfect accessory for anyone wanting to show off their love for their furry pal at all times.
