Do Titanium Earrings Contain Nickel?

The short answer is no, titanium earrings do not contain nickel. The longer answer is a little more complicated. 

There is a slight catch that some jewellery manufacturers may advertise that they sell titanium earrings but in actual fact their products are made of a titanium alloy. These alloys can contain trace amounts of nickel which could cause a reaction for some people. This is why it’s important to do your research when shopping for titanium earrings.

Although it is extremely rare, it is not completely impossible to be allergic to titanium earrings. In a tiny minority of cases, some people have experienced an allergic reaction to titanium but this is an exceptionally infrequent occurrence. So much so that titanium remains the worldwide recommended metal for medical implants even for those who have experienced reactions to other metals such as stainless steel.

Do Titanium Earrings Tarnish?

No. Titanium jewellery will not tarnish or corrode. Titanium is an incredibly strong and durable metal that will stand the test of time. In fact, titanium has the highest strength-to-density ratio of any metallic element. This means it’s tough yet exceptionally lightweight and comfortable to wear. It’s also completely waterproof so there’s no need to take out your titanium earrings when you swim or shower either. 

How To Look After Titanium Earrings

If your titanium earrings do start to look a little dull from everyday dirt and grime, all you need to do is soak them in a bowl of mild soap and water then wipe clean with a soft cloth. Leave them to dry naturally and their shine will be back in an instant!
