Our Guide to Deciding if Gold or Silver Jewellery Suits You Best.
Should you go for that pair of gold, sparkly stud earrings or would those silver hoops suit you better? Some people have a clear favourite when it comes to their preferred colour of jewellery. But for others, it can be a real struggle choosing what to wear. It’s even trickier knowing which colour to buy as a gift for someone else. Of course, here at Solace we're taking about high quality, hypoallergenic stainless steel rather than the coinage metals. But that doesn't make your choice any easier - especially when so much of our beautiful stainless steel jewellery is available in multiple colours. Luckily, we’re here with a few key tips to help you decide which is right for you.
Consider Your Skin Tone.
A long standing argument is that you should buy the colour jewellery that suits your skin tone the best. Traditionalists will say that anyone with a cool undertone to their skin should opt for silver jewellery. Whilst those with warmer undertones will shine bright in gold jewellery.
It’s worth noting that skin tone is different to skin colour. People with lighter skin can have a warm skin tone and people with darker skin can have a cool skin tone. So unless you’re a makeup addict, you’ve probably never studied the tone of your skin that deeply. But there is a quick and easy way to find out if yours is cool or warm. Simply take a look at the veins on your wrist. If your veins are a blue colour, you have a cooler skin tone but if they're green, you have a warm one. You’ve probably also got a cool skin tone if you burn easily in the sunshine.
Using your skin tone as guide for choosing gold or silver jewellery is a good starting point if you’re struggling to pick between the two. But we’d recommend taking this age old tip with a pinch of salt if you’ve got your heart set on something different – especially when there are other factors to consider too.
Your Make Up
If you’re someone that likes to wear rich, bronze coloured makeup, you’ll find that gold coloured stainless steel jewellery will suit your look the best. But if you prefer neutrals or cool metallics, silver jewellery will accent it perfectly.
Your Outfit
The last thing to consider when choosing gold or silver jewellery is which will compliment your outfit the best.
Gold jewellery will really pop against darker coloured outfits – particularly those consisting of earthy browns, navy, deep greens, rich reds, or burgundy. Whereas pastels and light, summary colours are best paired with silver.
Go with What You Love
This guide is a great starting point to help you choose the right colour stainless steel jewellery but don’t let it get in the way of wearing something you really love. Rules are made to be broken after all!
